Chiang Mai Police Fine Rider For Illegal Electric Unicycle Stunt
Chiang Mai police fined a 30‑year‑old man 5,000 baht for riding an unregistered electric unicycle down Doi Suthep at high speed to film videos. The case has been forwarded to the Phuping Rachaniwet Police Station, with another related case pending at Huai Nam Dang National Park. Authorities warned that such vehicles are banned from public roads due to safety risks.
On 19 October 2026, Pol. Col. Sihonthai Lilitham of the Phuping Rachaniwet Police Station in Chiang Mai revealed progress in prosecuting a group of electric unicycle riders who descended Doi Suthep at high speed to make videos, sparking safety concerns. Police identified the rider, a 30‑year‑old man from Nong Jom subdistrict, Santi Sai district, Chiang Mai, seized the electric unicycle, and forwarded him to investigators. He was charged with using an unregistered vehicle on a road under the Motor Vehicle Act BE 2522, sections 6 and 60, punishable by a fine up to 10,000 baht; he admitted guilt and was fined 5,000 baht, a petty offense that ends upon payment. Police emphasized that electric unicycles and electric scooters are illegal on public roads and pose serious accident risks, especially on steep or winding routes, and urged the public to report dangerous riding via 191 or 053-211750. Additionally, the director of the Regional Office of Conservation Area 16 (Chiang Mai) assigned Huai Nam Dang National Park to file another case; as the park spans four districts across two provinces, investigators in each area told the offender to report to the Phuping Rachaniwet Police Station to pay the fine.
