Wife Refuses to Cremate Husband Until Justice Served

A 48-year-old man was stabbed to death near a house-warming event in Khon Kaen’s Ban Phai district on October 17, 2026. His widow says she will not cremate him until justice is served, demanding that four suspects take responsibility for the attack. She described her husband as the family's primary provider and said only the family of the accused has admitted guilt so far.

The 38-year-old wife said that on the day of the incident, she had spoken with her husband about work in the afternoon and talked on the phone in the evening. Around 7:00–8:00 p.m., after their conversation, she went to sleep. At about 2:00 a.m., her husband's relatives called to inform her that he had been stabbed and was being taken to the hospital; at that point they had not yet said he had died. While she was preparing to go, she received another call saying her husband had already passed away.

She said she learned some details from a video clip, understanding that her husband had gotten into his car and started the engine to head home before opening the door and stepping out, after which a group of people attacked him, stabbing him. She believes he may have heard shouting or the sound of breaking glass, prompting him to get out of the car. She insists he did not throw glass shards at the group, saying that someone behind the vehicle broke the glass and that her husband had no prior argument or acquaintance with the attackers.

She added that her husband was the family's breadwinner, working constantly and only returning home during festivals or when there was local work. She is his second wife; they have no children together, but each brought children from previous relationships and they help raise them. Her sons are both boys, while her husband has a son and a daughter; his son is unable to speak.

Furthermore, her husband also supports his two younger brothers after their parents' deaths. One brother has no stable livelihood, the other works intermittently. He takes responsibility for his parents' debts, household expenses, water and electricity bills, and caring for his brothers. Without him, the family does not know how they will survive, and the children have lost their father, the family's pillar.

Earlier today, only the family of the accused stabber came to talk and admitted guilt, while the families of the other three individuals involved have not yet come forward. As far as she knows, those three have been released on bail. She wants everyone involved to accept responsibility and show compassion toward her family; if they do not, she will let the police pursue the case, as it is not yet closed. She calls for the law to be enforced strictly, so that such incidents do not happen to other families, and she will not cremate her husband until justice is served.

Meanwhile, the father of Apichai, nicknamed Job, aged 26, who was injured, said that according to his son, before the incident his son was at home when his uncle (the deceased) came to pick up a tarpaulin, so they went together to watch a molam performance with about three or four relatives. His son then stepped in to try to stop the attack on his uncle and was stabbed in the process. The father said he did not attend the event and has not questioned his son in detail because he is still injured, so he does not know the exact cause. His son has been discharged from hospital but still needs wound cleaning, dressing, and follow‑up medical appointments; the father remains unsure whether his son is fully recovered and notes that his son is still shaken by the event.
