Police Ban Electric Unicycle Tours on Doi Suthep

Police and national park officials in Chiang Mai are preparing to charge operators of electric unicycle tours that produce reckless videos while riding down Doi Suthep, citing violations of land transport and traffic laws. The officials said the activity endangers riders and others, and they have ordered park staff to prohibit such rides in protected areas. The move follows complaints from villagers and continues despite earlier warnings, with similar tours still observed at Huay Huad waterfall in Huai Nam Dang National Park.

Police and park authorities are preparing to charge operators of electric unicycle tours that produce reckless videos while riding down Doi Suthep, saying the activity creates danger and risk to riders and others. Villagers have urged agencies to investigate and enforce regulations. On October 19, 2026, reporters noted that such tours continue, especially at Huay Huad waterfall in Huai Nam Dang National Park, Mae Taeng district, Chiang Mai, with videos posted online. Kritsiyam Khongsetri, director of Conservation Area Office 16, said the matter has been reported and outlined three legal aspects: the exit road at Sriwichai falls under the Land Transport Act, the vehicles under the same act, and the reckless riding under the Traffic Act. The office has instructed park staff to prohibit such risky rides in the park via LINE to the head of Huai Nam Dang National Park, citing possible violations of Sections 19(2) and 20. The park chief has acknowledged and begun action; riding up to Mae Hat waterfall in the park is also illegal. Police Major General Yuttana Kaenchan of Chiang Mai Provincial Police said that using electric unicycles to ride down Doi Suthep is unlawful, endangering riders and others. He has ordered Chiang Mai traffic police to investigate and take legal action against the tour groups, and to coordinate with the Chiang Mai Land Transport Office to establish preventive measures and regulations.
