At 9:00 PM on October 23, 2026, officers from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) intercepted a drug trafficking operation in southern Thailand, arresting two suspects: 28-year-old Thanaphon and his 27-year-old wife, Daoprasuk. Police seized 924,000 methamphetamine pills. The couple was driving a white Toyota pickup truck with Bangkok license plates, traveling from the north with their infant son. The vehicle had been modified with a hidden compartment beneath the truck bed to conceal the drugs. Prior to the arrest, NSB investigators had tracked the vehicle after learning it was being used to smuggle narcotics. Officers apprehended the suspects on the Asian Highway at the Kha Long bypass, Moo 1, Pa Phak Ha subdistrict, Khuan Khanun district, Phatthalung province. Investigation revealed the couple was transporting the drugs from northern Thailand with the final destination in Hat Yai district, Songkhla province. Following the arrest, both suspects and the seized narcotics were handed over to Na Khayat Police Station investigators for legal proceedings, while authorities continue to expand the investigation to trace the wider network.

CPRAM Clarifies Basil Registration Only Covers New Varieties

CPRAM has clarified that its registration of four new basil varieties (Kaew Juree 01-04) applies only to strains developed for its ready-to-eat food production and does not affect Thailand's 300-plus traditional basil varieties. Farmers, vendors, and restaurants can continue growing, selling, and cooking with common basil as usual. The company says varietal research is essential for agricultural competitiveness and aligning with Thailand's goal to become a global food hub.
