Breaking: Police have arrested a 19-year-old man on a modified motorcycle who punched a 27-year-old woman driving a car at the Ladprao five-way intersection. The suspect claimed he would not have attacked if the driver had not provoked him and insisted he did not know the driver was a woman.

The incident occurred when the young man on a loud motorcycle became enraged after a minor collision with the woman's car. He jumped up and smashed the car's window, and despite the woman raising her hands in a wai gesture to apologize, he continued and punched her in the face, leaving her left eye bruised and swollen.

On October 23, 2026, at Phahon Yothin Police Station, investigators from Metropolitan Police Division 2 and the station's inquiry team took the suspect, Mr. Natthanon (alias "Leng"), age 19, into custody for questioning.

While being escorted to the interrogation room, reporters asked about his motive and whether he frequently behaved aggressively as alleged on social media. Leng replied, "Not often. If I don't encounter someone who provokes me, I wouldn't act like that." When asked what he was thinking to punch a woman so severely, he answered, "If I had known it was a woman, I wouldn't have done it."

Regarding the motive, Leng claimed the victim's car swerved and hit him first, but she refused to stop and talk. He followed on his motorcycle, trying to shout for her to stop, but she would not get out of the car, which made him furious. He admitted fault and expressed remorse after learning the victim was a woman.

Tonight, Phahon Yothin investigators will expedite questioning and consider pressing related charges. They have also scheduled an appointment for the victim and her lawyer to identify the suspect.

CPRAM Clarifies Basil Registration Only Covers New Varieties

CPRAM has clarified that its registration of four new basil varieties (Kaew Juree 01-04) applies only to strains developed for its ready-to-eat food production and does not affect Thailand's 300-plus traditional basil varieties. Farmers, vendors, and restaurants can continue growing, selling, and cooking with common basil as usual. The company says varietal research is essential for agricultural competitiveness and aligning with Thailand's goal to become a global food hub.
