TMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Floods, High Waves Oct 22-25
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for October 22-25, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in the South and East, with thunderstorms and strong winds in Bangkok and central regions. Authorities warn of flash floods, mudslides, and waves over three meters in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, urging residents and mariners to exercise caution.
On October 22, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department issued Announcement No. 12 (271/2026) regarding heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand, effective until October 25, 2026. During October 22-25, the Eastern and Southern regions will experience continuous rain with heavy to very heavy downpours in some areas. The lower Northern, lower Northeastern, Central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, will continue to have thunderstorms with strong gusts in some places.
Authorities urge residents in affected areas to beware of dangers from strong gusts, heavy to very heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and mudslides in foothill and low-lying areas. This is due to a monsoon trough passing through the central South, combined with the southwest monsoon covering the lower Andaman Sea, while a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China extends over the upper North, upper Northeast, and the South China Sea, causing easterly winds to prevail over Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves in thunderstorm areas will exceed 3 meters. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman Sea should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. For safety and to minimize impacts, the public is advised to plan daily activities and travel carefully during this period. People should continuously monitor TMD announcements via the website http://www.tmd.go.th or call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
