Rom Urges Govt Accountability Over MP Husband's Gambling Shares
Rom, chairman of the House Law Committee, called for government accountability over allegations that the husband of Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Tang Thansap holds shares in an online gambling website, urging agencies such as the SEC and cyber police to act lawfully. He said the issue goes beyond one MP and reflects a possible systemic misuse of state power to benefit criminals. Rom invited Suchada and her husband to clarify before a committee meeting on October 22, noting they have not yet confirmed attendance.
Rom reiterated that the matter of Suchada's husband holding shares in an online gambling website is larger than a no‑confidence debate against a single MP, stressing that the core issue is whether state agencies are fulfilling their legal obligations. He noted that former Democrat MP Sirayos Sopha had shown that the SHFL token, designated by the SEC, highlights persisting online gambling problems, suggesting that agencies such as the Digital Economy and Society Ministry, cyber police, and the SEC may themselves be at fault. Rom said his focus is not solely on pursuing legal action against Suchada but on questioning whether state bodies are acting lawfully, warning that inaction could turn into misconduct and allow individuals no different from criminals to exploit state power to aid criminal networks. He added that critics who accuse him of not filing a criminal complaint misunderstand the oversight role of the committee, which is not to prosecute one MP but to examine whether those in power are facilitating wrongdoing. Rom emphasized that he will not use his position to harass anyone, will respect differing opinions, and will continue working with maturity despite any friction or ridicule.
