PM Orders Nationwide Crackdown on Foreign Nominee Land Holdings
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has launched a nationwide crackdown on nominees who hold land on behalf of foreigners, ordering investigations to be completed by December 2026. He said forcing the sale of such land could unlock over 10 billion baht in economic circulation and stressed that investigations must reach the true beneficiaries behind the holdings. The operation involves multiple agencies and aims to protect national interests while welcoming legitimate foreign investment.
Anutin said the investigation must go beyond checking names on land titles or shareholder lists to identify the real beneficiaries behind the holdings, trace assets and related persons, and act against wrongdoers while expanding results to their networks. He stressed that Thailand still welcomes honest foreign investment that follows Thai laws, respects citizens' rights, and holds legally permitted land rights, and that the operation must be serious against violators and fair to those complying with the law. Success will be measured not just by discoveries but by achieving resolutions and effective enforcement. The PM, also serving as Interior Minister, called for integrated work across agencies, noting that the Land Department must examine land holding and disposal, while the Board of Investment must review related rights and conditions. The government outlined three immediate steps: accelerate case‑by‑case review of high‑risk groups, with the Land Department and provincial governors setting priorities, assigning responsibility, defining procedures and timelines, and promptly forwarding any network links to other authorities without delay.
