Thai Court Forwards PAD Amnesty Plea to Appeal Court
Thailand's Criminal Court has forwarded an amnesty request for the People's Alliance for Democracy group, which closed Don Mueang Airport in 2008, to the Appeal Court. The petition, filed under the Social Harmony Promotion Act, seeks to dismiss the rebellion charges against its leaders. The Appeal Court will now decide on the request while the case remains under its review.
On October 19, 2026, the Criminal Court ordered that the amnesty petition filed under the Social Harmony Promotion Act BE 2569 be sent to the Appeal Court for a ruling, as the case remains under Appeal Court consideration. The petition was submitted by the defendants on September 4, 2026, seeking to dismiss the case. The prosecutor raised no objection, and the court therefore directed the Appeal Court to decide on the request. The original charges stemmed from the 2008 occupation of Don Mueang Airport by the People's Alliance for Democracy, for which the Criminal Court had earlier acquitted Chamlong Srimuang and the 32 co‑defendants of rebellion and terrorism.
