Udon Thani Governor Probes Unfinished 39-Million Baht Clinic
The governor of Udon Thani has ordered an investigation into a Tambon Health Promotion Hospital project after its full 39‑million‑baht budget was withdrawn while construction remained incomplete. Inspectors found 13 unfinished items, yet contractors were rushing to finish the work, which is now over 90 percent complete. If wrongdoing is proven, officials will face disciplinary, civil, criminal and administrative penalties.
On 16 October 2026, Governor Chaiwat Chuenkosum directed Kanphot Pimkhoto, the district chief of Phen, and Nathapon Withee, director of the Udon Thani Command Center, to inspect the Tambon Health Promotion Hospital in Ban Luang, Na Phu subdistrict. The inspection revealed 13 unfinished items, including electrical work, tiling, painting, drainage, elevator installation, counters, doors, bathroom fixtures, stairwork, plumbing, ceiling work, site preparation, and final detailing, even though the final two installments totaling over 15.46 million baht had already been paid. Contractors were seen rushing to lay floors and install elevators, with the public works engineer overseeing the effort. Subdistrict Mayor Apisit Sukwong explained that the money was released early because he feared the budget would be lapsed and returned to the treasury after a previous withdrawal; he said he had reclaimed 29 million baht and re‑engaged the original contractor to finish the job. He added that work is now more than 90 percent complete and expects full completion within four to five days. Meanwhile, the governor has ordered his deputy, Nathapon Withee, to forward a request to the district office, the State Audit Office, and the National Anti‑Corruption Commission to investigate the project; if misconduct is confirmed, disciplinary, civil, criminal and administrative actions will be pursued.
