Permanent Secretary Helps Teen in Land Dispute After Father's Death

Permanent Secretary for Education Akanat Kanjanakitthinan is intervening to help a 15-year-old girl whose father died during a 2.5 million baht land purchase in Nakhon Pathom. Although the family has recovered the 2 million baht already paid, part of the land remains unresolved. Akanat pledged to coordinate government agencies to protect the girl's rights and ensure her education is not disrupted by the family's legal troubles.

Permanent Secretary for Education Akanat Kanjanakitthinan, in his capacity as chair of the Ministry's Center for the Protection of Rights, Liberties and Safety, received a complaint from Raphi Chamnan Ruea on behalf of a 15-year-old girl who lost her father in a land dispute. The father had signed a contract to buy land in Nakhon Pathom worth 2.5 million baht and paid about 2 million before dying in an accident. After the father's death, the family tried to negotiate selling the land to a new buyer and recover the money but faced repeated postponements until recently receiving the full 2 million baht back. However, the issue of the remaining land portion still needs resolution.

Raphi said he trusted that Akanat, as Permanent Secretary and center chair, would coordinate relevant agencies to oversee the case appropriately, urging adults to step in because a child should not have to fight these battles alone.

Akanat stated the matter goes beyond a simple financial or land dispute; it affects the life of a child who lost her father and the family's main pillar. The ministry must not let the child face these problems alone. The priority is ensuring the family accesses assistance and receives legal protection. He will coordinate agencies to verify facts and consider assistance within their legal authority, emphasizing evidence and legal process while considering the impact on the child's education and wellbeing.

"Assistance must not end at merely receiving a complaint; we must strive to ensure those in distress receive tangible help, especially children affected by family problems. We must look after their rights, welfare and educational opportunities so they can return to living and studying fully, because every child deserves a chance to grow and have a good future even if their family faces difficulties," Akanat said.

He suggests this cosmic timing explains why protests, coups, and unrest frequently erupt in October, urging people to act wisely during this volatile period.

People's Party deputy leader Rangsiman Rome said opposition negotiators have agreed in principle to a four-day no-confidence debate plus a separate voting day, but must still settle hour allocations with other opposition parties. He also criticized the Justice Ministry for what he called selective enforcement, contrasting the swift pursuit of one opposition MP with delays in acting against a government-aligned MP facing asset-transfer allegations.

Democrat Party Deputy Spokesperson Duangruthai Bua-kaew sharply criticized the government's flood response in southern Thailand, accusing officials of being detached from the reality on the ground because floodwaters have not reached Government House. She challenged the Prime Minister's Office spokesperson to visit affected communities instead of relying on reports, citing repeated failures in past disasters like the Hat Yai floods. Duangruthai demanded proactive prevention measures rather than reactive photo opportunities, calling the current rainy season a critical test of the government's preparedness.
