At 19:00 on 16 October 2026, Police Lieutenant Chawakon Sitisak, deputy inspector of investigations at Mueang Chumphon Police Station, received a report of a person killed by a knife in a house in Hat Phan Krai subdistrict, Mueang district, Chumphon province. He rushed to the scene together with Police Colonel Panya Thomsri, station commander; Police Lieutenant Colonel Sakchayn Sukhanit, deputy investigations commander; Police Lieutenant Colonel Surasak Phannatashee, deputy commander (police), along with investigative officers, Chumphon provincial forensic police, doctors from Chumphon Hospital, and the Sai Chal rescue unit of the Chumphon Charitable Foundation.

The house is a raised concrete building one metre high, with three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen. Officers found the body of Jinnanawat (surname withheld), aged 29, with slash wounds to the face and a deep neck wound that nearly severed it.

About six metres behind the house, scattered belongings and a trail of blood were found, with a bent knife embedded in a tree stump; the blade was stained with blood and retained as evidence.

The perpetrator did not flee but remained inside the house waiting to surrender. He was identified as Chaiwat (surname withheld), aged 53, the homeowner and father of the deceased.

Chaiwat said he had returned from a construction job in town and was preparing to cook by lighting a fire behind the house to grill fish. The fish was not yet done when his son came from behind and swung a knife at him. He dodged, and the son struck the grill, destroying it. The son then turned on him again; Chaiwat got up, grappled with his son, managed to seize the knife and stabbed him repeatedly without restraint until the son collapsed in a pool of blood at the rear of the house.

Chaiwat added that he had lived alone with his son for three years; his wife was not present because the son was heavily addicted to drugs, often raving, sleepless, and destructive, damaging the house and belongings, causing neighbours in the area to live in fear and unable to sleep peacefully. That day, after finishing his work in town, he returned home and the incident occurred.

Police collected detailed evidence from the scene before taking Chaiwat into Mueang Chumphon Police Station and charging him with 'murder'. The body of Jinnanawat was sent to Chumphon Hospital for autopsy before being released to relatives for religious rites.

Reporters also noted that Jinnanawat had previously been arrested by police for possessing a firearm and drug use in 2022.
