Doctor Warns of Six Overlooked Colon Cancer Signs
Doctor Jed from Maharaj Nakorn Ratchasima Hospital highlights six commonly overlooked signs of colon cancer, ranging from fatigue and anemia to hidden blood in stool. He stresses that the disease can develop without typical bowel‑change symptoms and urges timely medical checks.
Doctor Jed, deputy director of Maharaj Nakorn Ratchasima Hospital, posted on his Facebook page that colon cancer does not always present with changes in bowel habits. He encourages the public to watch for six signs that are frequently missed.
1. Feeling easily fatigued or light‑headed despite no increase in activity; this can stem from slow, unseen bleeding that leads to anemia.
2. Discovering anemia on a blood test without an obvious source of blood loss; chronic, invisible bleeding from the gut can lower hemoglobin and iron stores, especially in men and post‑menopausal women.
3. Unintentional weight loss; losing weight without dieting or exercise may signal an underlying malignancy, particularly when accompanied by other symptoms.
4. Persistent abdominal pain or bloating that is often mistaken for gastritis; discomfort that worsens, changes pattern, or occurs with weight loss or pallor warrants further investigation.
5. Noticeable abdominal distension, nausea, and early satiety caused by a tumor narrowing the intestinal passage; severe cases can cause obstruction, vomiting, and inability to pass gas or stool, requiring emergency care.
6. Detecting occult (hidden) blood in the stool through a FIT test even when daily bowel movements appear normal and contain no visible blood.
