Southern Provinces Warned of Landslide, Flash Flood Risks
Authorities warn four southern provinces of landslide and flash flood risks due to heavy rain expected October 19‑25. The Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain and strong winds across multiple regions, raising fears of sudden flooding and mudslides. Volunteers and the public are urged to stay alert and avoid flood‑prone areas and sea travel during storms.
The Department of Mineral Resources warned that heavy rain in landslide-prone areas could trigger landslides and flash floods, especially in the four southern provinces listed. Meteorological data shows ongoing heavy to very heavy rain in the south and east on October 19‑20, with rain intensifying and spreading to the lower northeast, central, Bangkok vicinity, eastern, and upper southern regions from October 21‑25, accompanied by gusty winds. Authorities advise the public to guard against dangers from strong winds, heavy to very heavy rain, and accumulated rainfall that may cause sudden flooding, flash floods, and mudslides, particularly on slopes near waterways and in low‑lying areas. Travelers should avoid routes prone to recurrent flooding, especially low‑lying spots that may experience standing water. Sea waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand may exceed three meters during thunderstorms; mariners are urged to navigate cautiously and avoid sailing in stormy conditions. Volunteer networks are called upon to monitor geological hazards closely, prepare for possible incidents, and ensure prompt inspection and public guidance if any disaster occurs.
