DITP launched its global food market push, leading 86 Thai enterprises to SIAL Paris 2026, highlighting value‑added and innovative products and projecting over 2 billion baht in orders. On 17 October 2069 (local time in France), DITP Director‑General Warawut Somwangprasert, together with Thai Chamber of Commerce President Phan Aramwatthananon and Paris Ambassador Nikornadet Phlangkhoor, inaugurated the Thailand Pavilion at the SIAL Paris 2026 international food and beverage exhibition held at Paris Nord Villepinte from 17‑21 October. The initiative aims to expand trade opportunities, connect Thai businesses with worldwide buyers, and push Thai food products into foreign markets. Warawut noted that SIAL Paris is a key global food‑and‑drink trade event held every two years, with this year’s edition covering 145,000 square metres, featuring over 7,800 companies from about 130 countries and expecting nearly 300,000 visitors. The event gives Thai firms a chance to meet buyers, importers and partners directly, learn market trends and use that information to improve competitiveness. This year DITP, together with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, brought 86 Thai food and beverage companies to the fair, up roughly 10 percent from 2067, focusing especially on SMEs to access international markets and networks, boost export channels and turn trade talks into actual purchase orders. The move aligns with the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supachai Sutthapun, who urged DITP to prioritize exports and enhance Thai firms’ competitiveness. Participation reflects the Team Thailand approach, integrating government and private‑sector cooperation to facilitate trade, link businesses with overseas buyer networks and allies, and create opportunities to expand markets and push Thai food products to global consumers. The Thailand Pavilion showcased a diverse range of food and drink items, including fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits, canned and processed produce, sauces and seasonings, canned and processed seafood, frozen seafood, ready‑to‑eat meals, rice and rice‑based products, snacks and beverages, highlighting Thailand’s capacity to meet varied market demands. Besides trade talks, the event emphasized confidence in Thai product quality and standards by supporting the Thai Tuna Industry Association’s special lecture “Sustainable Tuna Supply Chains: What Global Buyers Need to Know in a Changing Market,” an official SIAL Talk session, to share information on the potential, quality, standards and innovation of Thailand’s tuna and processed seafood industries and to promote sustainable supply‑chain development.

Bangkok Flood Relief Lagging Due to Weak Local Administration

Pharadon Prisananantakul warned that flood relief payments for Bangkok are lagging due to weak local administration, unlike the rapid progress seen in provinces where village heads and local organisations drive the process. He said only about 600,000 of the estimated 2.3 million affected households have received aid, with the rest to be funded from the 2070 central budget, and questioned whether Bangkok MPs and city councillors should be deployed to accelerate verification. The minister affirmed that the government has sufficient funds and that pre‑October flood damage is covered by the state while post‑October damage falls to insurance companies.
