Commerce Ministry Offers 62% Discounts on Essentials for Flood Victims
The Ministry of Commerce has launched a "Thai Helps Thai" fair in Bangkok's flood-hit Rom Klao area, selling over 100 essential items at discounts up to 62%. The initiative aims to reduce household costs by at least 200 million baht and includes rice, eggs, cooking oil, cleaning products, and electrical appliances for residents recovering from flood damage.
Wattanasak Sueayam, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, disclosed that in response to the high cost of living, particularly in post-flood areas, the Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of Internal Trade, has accelerated the "Thai Helps Thai, Thong Fah Reduces Cost of Living" project. This follows the policy of Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supamas Isarabhakdi to ease public expenses.
The project is being rolled out in Bangkok with coordination from the Cooperative Promotion Department, which arranged a sales venue opposite Soi Rom Klao 58 in Lat Krabang district, providing convenient access to affordable necessities. This sale features over 100 items across five categories with discounts up to 62%. Highlight items essential for daily living include: 100% Hom Mali rice (5 kg) at 120 baht per bag, down from the market price of 165-180 baht (up to 33% off); white rice (5 kg) at 90 baht, down from 100-120 baht (up to 25% off); Grade M eggs, sizes 2-3 (30 eggs per tray) at 110 baht, down from 140 baht (21% off); refined sugar (1 kg) at 22 baht, down from 26-28 baht (up to 21% off); and palm oil (1 liter) at 42 baht, down from 47-50 baht (up to 16% off).
Additionally, 76 other consumer and cleaning products are available at 10-61% off, covering daily necessities. Personal care items such as shower cream, shampoo, liquid soap, and skin cream are discounted 8-59%. Laundry and cleaning products including floor cleaner, laundry detergent, fabric softener, dishwashing liquid, and washing powder are reduced 11-54%. Food and seasonings like oyster sauce, chili sauce, canned fish, instant noodles, fruit juice, and milk are 8-42% off. Cleaning tools such as mops, brooms, and scrub brushes are discounted 42-62%.
Simultaneously, recognizing the need for electrical appliances and household items damaged by floods, the Ministry secured cooperation from CP Extra Public Company Limited, through its Lotus's retail stores, to sell over 30 electrical and household items. These include an ACONATIC 1,700-watt grill reduced from 1,990 baht to 890 baht (55% off); an ACONATIC 1.8-liter kettle reduced from 599 baht to 299 baht (50% off); and an ACONATIC 0.8-liter rice cooker reduced from 890 baht to 459 baht (48% off), along with steam irons, vacuum cleaners, bedding, sliding storage boxes, laundry baskets, and drawer cabinets.
"The Department of Internal Trade thanks manufacturers and entrepreneurs who supported selling goods at special prices. All products are from standardized producers. We also thank CP Extra Plc. and Lotus's for cooperating to bring goods to help the people, as well as the district office for facilitating the venue and ensuring sales safety. The Department is ready to coordinate with the Cooperative Promotion Department and local agencies to identify areas needing assistance and the specific product needs of the public, ensuring targeted aid. We want to assure the public that the Ministry of Commerce will work to its fullest and best for our fellow citizens, as the Deputy Prime Minister has strongly emphasized," said Wattanasak.
