Bangkok Police Seize 5 Tons of Cannabis in Luxury Raid
Bangkok immigration police raided a luxury home in Khao Bon, arresting five foreign nationals and seizing over five tonnes of cannabis being prepared for distribution. The operation uncovered a year‑long illegal cultivation and packaging scheme run by foreigners, with a Thai person listed as the property renter. Authorities are expanding the investigation to locate the Thai leaseholder and the major financier behind the enterprise.
On October 19, 2069, Pol Lt Gen Nophisit Poonsawat led immigration police, alongside other officials, to search a three‑story luxury house in Soi Khu Bon 27, Kwaeng Tha Raeng, Khet Bang Khen, Bangkok, under a warrant from the Minburi Criminal Court. Inside, officers found more than five tonnes of cannabis flowers and arrested one Vietnamese and four Myanmar nationals who were sorting and packaging the buds for customers. The house had installed ventilation ducts to disperse the smell. Preliminary inquiries revealed a Thai person had rented the property; the foreigners lived there and operated the facility for over a year, with the four Myanmar workers earning about 200‑300 baht per day. The Vietnamese detainee appears to have managed the operation like a company. The seized cannabis will be sent to a laboratory to determine whether it was domestically grown or imported. Legal experts noted that the existing permit, issued by Nong Bua Lamphu province, does not cover Bangkok, rendering the activity illegal and punishable by up to one year’s imprisonment or a fine of 20,000 baht.
