A tugboat sank in the Pa Sak River in Ayutthaya on October 17, 2026, leaving the 62‑year‑old operator unharmed. Sonar located the vessel at about 18 meters depth, and divers secured ropes and buoys to mark the spot. Recovery efforts will resume at dawn after darkness and poor visibility halted operations overnight.
Ayutthaya officials reported that a tugboat sank in the Pa Sak River near Wat Phanancheong Worawihan, with the 62‑year‑old crew member escaping unhurt. Police, rescue foundation staff, and marine department officers arrived to assist. Using sonar, a dive team located the vessel at approximately 18 meters depth, with its bow tilted to the left. They secured ropes and placed buoys to mark the site, but darkness and poor visibility forced them to suspend the recovery operation for safety. Ayutthaya marine office acting director Damrongsak Phakaphol said the plan is to resume work in the morning, first securing the tugboat and then towing it to a safe area near Wat Kluay for further salvage.
