Thailand has won the right to host the world PCB convention for the first time in ASEAN. The Board of Investment (BOI) will gather PCB and chip leaders from over 30 countries, aiming to establish Thailand as a global AI hardware base, targeting more than 3,000 attendees.
Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment (BOI), revealed after discussions with Pithan Ongkhasit, President of the Thai Printed Circuit Association (THPCA), that the BOI, together with the association and partner agencies, is preparing to host the 17th Electronic Circuits World Convention (ECWC17) from August 18–20, 2027, at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), alongside the Thailand Electronics Circuit Asia 2027 (THECA 2027) exhibition showcasing printed circuit board (PCB) and advanced electronics technologies.
Thailand's selection as host of ECWC marks the first time in ASEAN since the convention began in London in 1978, reflecting the global electronics industry's confidence in Thailand's potential — its manufacturing base, industrial ecosystem, and readiness to connect with international technology networks. Held every three years, the convention is a key platform bringing together industry leaders, researchers, and engineers worldwide; the most recent edition took place in California, USA, in 2024.
ECWC17 will run under the theme "Interconnection Technology for the AI-Driven Future: PCB, Substrate & Advanced Packaging," focusing on connectivity technologies that support AI chip operations, covering electronic circuit boards, chip substrates, and advanced packaging technologies.
The conference covers eight main topics: PCB manufacturing technology, advanced packaging and semiconductor integration, circuit board assembly and electronic systems including AI servers and smart factories, testing and quality control, green electronics, workforce development, and emerging technologies such as photonics and AI hardware. The event targets more than 150 academic presentations, over 450 exhibitors across ECWC17 and THECA 2027, and more than 3,000 attendees from over 30 countries.
Opening Business Opportunities for Thailand to Connect with Global AI Supply Chain
Narit stated that the event will create opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs to meet global manufacturers, material and machinery suppliers, and international buyers to access new technologies, upgrade products to meet international standards, and expand opportunities to join the supply chains of leading companies. Universities and researchers will also build collaborations with industry to advance research and develop talent for rapidly evolving technologies.
"Thailand's selection to host the world electronic circuits convention (ECWC17) is a clear signal that global semiconductor and electronics leaders see potential and trust in Thailand — not only as a quality manufacturing base but as a complete technology ecosystem from chips, circuit boards, and raw materials to AI servers, backed by strong talent, infrastructure, and supply chain networks," Narit said.
He added that this platform is a crucial opportunity to demonstrate Thailand's readiness to become a regional hub for advanced electronics and to advance toward future technologies, including Advanced Packaging and IC Substrate. The BOI will work closely with THPCA and partners to turn global confidence into investment, technology transfer, and growth opportunities for Thai talent and entrepreneurs.
