Somrak Khamsing Gets Two-Year Jail Term for Minor Abduction
Somrak Khamsing, the Olympic boxing champion, has been sentenced to two years in prison without suspension for abducting a 17‑year‑old girl for sexual purposes in Khon Kaen. The court also ordered him to pay 200,000 baht in compensation, while his co‑defendant was acquitted. The prosecution plans to appeal the dismissed attempted‑rape charge to the Supreme Court.
On 20 October 2069, the Khon Kaen Appeal Court announced its ruling in case An 694/2567, reducing the charges against Somrak Khamsing and Pichit Chinnehanta. The court dismissed the attempted rape charge against Somrak Khamsing but upheld the charge of jointly abducting a minor over 15 but under 18 years for sexual purposes, even though the victim consented. Somrak Khamsing was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment without parole and ordered to pay a total of 200,000 baht in damages, comprising an earlier 120,000 baht deposit plus an additional 80,000 baht. Pichit Chinnehanta was cleared of all charges, matching the acquittal handed down by the trial court. Both men arrived at the courthouse smiling, accompanied by about ten supporters, while the judgment took roughly fifty minutes to deliver. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Athiwat Niamsri, said the prosecution will appeal to the Supreme Court, focusing solely on the attempted rape allegation against Somrak Khamsing. The case stems from a 17‑year‑old woman from Kalasin who filed a complaint after an encounter at a Khon Kaen entertainment venue on 10 December 2067, during which Somrak Khamsing claimed he did not know her age.
