Police Arrest 22-Year-Old for Hacking Guard's Phone, Stealing Funds
A 22-year-old man was arrested for hacking a 63-year-old security guard's phone, stealing bank information, and transferring 25,000 baht to his own account. He withdrew the cash, purchased an iPad, and used the rest for personal expenses before discarding the phone. Police apprehended him within 24 hours using CCTV evidence, and the victim commended their rapid response.
The incident took place on the night of October 14, 2022, when the victim, a security guard for a village along Ban Chang-Hat Pha Road in Pla Subdistrict, was watching YouTube and suddenly suffered severe stomach pain. He placed his phone on the guardhouse counter and rushed to the toilet, forgetting to lock the screen. The phone contained notes of his bank account number, which he had saved for fear of forgetting. The 22-year-old suspect stole the phone, hacked it to obtain the bank details, transferred 25,000 baht to his own account, withdrew the money from an ATM, and discarded the phone. He used part of the funds to buy an iPad and the rest for personal spending. Police reviewed CCTV footage, identified the suspect, and arrested him within 24 hours. The victim later praised the police for their swift action, noting that his daughter had attempted to freeze the account but the transfer had already been completed, leaving only 600 baht remaining.
