A man held his son at knifepoint under Bangkok's Yommarat Bridge on October 24, prompting a police negotiation that ended with the suspect's arrest. The father was reportedly incoherent, and his wife and child suffered shock and minor injuries. Police are investigating the motive.
At 10:20 AM on October 24, 2026, the Bangkok Radio Center received a report of a disturbed man using a knife to hold a child hostage under the Yommarat intersection bridge on Phetchaburi Road, Ratchathewi District, Bangkok, within the jurisdiction of Phaya Thai Police Station. Upon receiving the report, police coordinated with officers and Phaya Thai rescue volunteers to rush to the scene to investigate and contain the incident.
Upon inspection, they found a man holding a knife to the neck of a child, who was his son. The situation was not yet under control, so officers had to exercise caution in their approach, fearing the child hostage might be harmed. Simultaneously, officers attempted to negotiate with the man to end his actions and release the child safely. During the operation, they also coordinated to cease siren signals near the scene to prevent public panic and avoid disrupting the officers' de-escalation efforts.
Eventually, officers managed to control the situation and apprehend the suspect. The incident left the perpetrator's wife and child in shock with minor injuries. Initially, the cause and motive remain undetermined because the suspect was speaking incoherently; police must wait until he can be interrogated. Phaya Thai Police Station will investigate the facts and details of the incident to proceed with legal action.
