Drunk Ex-Monk Disrupts Funeral, Arrested Then Terrorizes Neighbors
A former monk in Uthai Thani was arrested for disrupting a funeral while drunk, then released the next day only to terrorize his neighbors with loud music and threats. The 37-year-old has a history of alcohol-fueled violence, including a previous prison term for assaulting his mother. Villagers have petitioned police for stronger legal action to end the ongoing harassment.
The incident began on October 21 when former monk Suphat, 37, drank heavily after being denied permission to participate in funeral prayers. He stormed the ceremony causing chaos, prompting villagers to call police, who arrested him immediately. At 10:00 AM on October 22, 2026, 64-year-old Phakamon of Ban Tha Manao in Lan Sak district, Uthai Thani, filed a complaint at Lan Sak Police Station with evidence. She reported that Suphat, her neighbor across the street, had been released after just one night in custody and immediately resumed blasting loud music while intoxicated. He also roamed the street threatening passersby and accusing Phakamon of reporting him. Phakamon said her elderly aunt lives in fear; Suphat has repeatedly offended after each monkhood stint, once assaulting his mother severely enough to earn a prison sentence. Villagers want police to take legal action to restore peace.
