Contractor Shot While Golfing in Phatthalung
A prominent construction contractor was critically wounded when a gunman shot him with a scoped .22 rifle while he was golfing outside his office in Phatthalung's Bang Kaeo district. The attacker fired from about 30 meters away in woods behind the property after poisoning guard dogs days earlier. Police believe the planned hit stems from a construction business dispute and are hunting for the shooter and any mastermind.
On October 21, reporters received updates on the shooting of 57-year-old construction contractor Saeng Athit, who was ambushed while golfing in front of his company in Bang Kaeo district, Phatthalung, on the evening of October 20. The bullet struck below his right ear and exited his left cheek, causing severe injuries. Phatthalung Provincial Police Chief Pol. Col. Chawalit Phetsri-pia personally led a team with EOD and Region 9 investigators to the scene. They determined the gunman used a scoped .22 rifle, firing from roughly 30 meters away in dense woods behind the house before escaping on foot via a calculated route. Workers revealed that five days before the attack, dogs kept in cages on the property had been poisoned, likely to silence them. Police are treating a construction business conflict as the main line of inquiry, rushing to examine surveillance footage and interview close contacts while pursuing the shooter and anyone who ordered the hit. Investigators from Phatthalung Police, Region 9, and the Songkhla Forensic Unit continue combing the wooded area behind the property, where the shooting position was concealed by eucalyptus trees. The gunman entered and left on foot, but no suspect has yet been identified from available camera angles.
