Tottenham Smashes Transfer Record Signing Tonali
Tottenham signed Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle for a club-record £100 million, with the 26-year-old revealing Spurs was his only serious suitor despite rumors of wider interest.
Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali has spoken about his move to Tottenham Hotspur following the club-record transfer. Tonali revealed that contrary to rumors of interest from four or five clubs, only Spurs actually approached him.
Tottenham's star signing, the 26-year-old from Newcastle United, joined on a deal worth up to £100 million, setting a new club transfer record. His contract runs through June 2028.
After three seasons at Newcastle, Tonali decided to make the move to London. Spurs had to work hard after their initial £80 million bid was rejected before eventually reaching an agreement worth £92.5 million upfront with £7.5 million in additional add-ons.
Tonali told BBC that he is delighted to be here, and that despite the rumors of other clubs' interest, Tottenham was his only choice.
"I had a conversation with Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou that lasted almost two hours, discussing the club, the fans, the stadium, and our team's vision. It felt like magic. I knew immediately I had to sign for Spurs. I've played against them before and have always been impressed by the incredible atmosphere from the fans. I can't wait to start the new season," Tonali said.
Tonali is Tottenham's latest signing, following Matheus Nunes' recent arrival from West Ham for £85 million, marking a major strengthening of Postecoglou's squad ahead of the new season.
