Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to make positive and constructive public statements, counter misinformation and exercise restraint to prevent tensions from undermining negotiations over their maritime boundary. The six confidence-building measures were published by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) following the second meeting of the Conciliation Commission in the two countries' dispute settlement process under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The document is dated 17 October 2026. Both countries agreed to communicate in ways that support constructive engagement rather than put pressure on the other side or limit negotiation options. They also pledged to guard against misinformation and disinformation across official and personal platforms, as well as domestic and social media. While both sides retain the right to defend their legitimate interests and correct false information, they agreed to exercise restraint in statements that could fuel negative public sentiment or heighten tensions between their peoples. The commission commended both countries for their serious and good-faith participation, saying the process reaffirmed their commitment to international law, dialogue and the peaceful settlement of disputes. The measures also call on both sides to avoid actions that could escalate the dispute or alter the status quo in the maritime areas under consideration, implement previous agreements and engage in technical discussions towards a permanent maritime boundary and bilateral treaty. Thailand and Cambodia will also use existing communication channels, including between their navy commanders, to promptly notify each other of maritime incidents and prevent misunderstandings. Implementation will take place over the coming months. Both countries will report progress and any serious difficulties to the commission, which may recommend appropriate steps.

Ex-MP Gives DSI Evidence Tying Shuffle Gambling to Politician

Former Democrat MP Siri Chok Sopha submitted evidence to the Department of Special Investigation linking the Shuffle.com online gambling platform to politician Nuchada Sangtanatrux. He alleges a conflict of interest because Nuchada, while serving as Secretary to the Digital Economy Minister tasked with suppressing gambling sites, knew her husband operated the gambling business and Shuffle continued operating until October 2026. Siri Chok says he has current shareholder records and advertising clips as proof, and the case may involve overlapping political benefits beyond simple asset declarations.
