Staying Up All Night: Citizens Glued to Phones Waiting to Register for 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' Scheme, Fearing They'll Miss Out

Anxious and sleepless, residents are glued to their phones waiting to register for Thai Helps Thai Plus, revealing their desperation not to miss the opportunity, even if it means forgoing sleep. On May 24, 2569, reporters documented the atmosphere across Buriram Province as residents prepared to register for 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' from midnight onward, with households throughout the province staying awake all night, terrified of missing the government's target of 30 million registrants.

Sassathon, 47, from Thlung Lek subdistrict in Muang district, Buriram Province, said that after learning registration would open at 6:00 AM on May 25, 2569, she felt both excited and anxious about potentially failing to register, knowing masses of people would be signing up. She was determined to stay awake to be among the first to register for the program.

Many acknowledge that registration will attract huge numbers because everyone hopes to reduce their household expenses. After learning about it online, they didn't want to miss the chance, so they're willing to skip sleep from 6:00 PM onwards to secure an early spot when registration opens.

Many are eager to cut household costs. They've worked hard and normally return home to sleep early every day, but tonight they're willing to make an exception—staying awake—because they're terrified of missing the registration deadline. For them, missing out means losing an additional 60 percent of their living expenses. As ordinary citizens, some are calling on the government to consider whether such programs could be structured in ways that don't leave people in such anxious situations, arguing that the difference between poverty and stability holds real meaning for struggling families.
