PM Anutin Champions Peaceful Dispute Resolution on UN Day
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul marked United Nations Day with a televised radio address reaffirming Thailand's commitment to international law, peaceful dispute resolution, and multilateral cooperation. He positioned Thailand as a "bridge" for global dialogue, citing the recent hosting of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok as proof of the country's active diplomatic role.
Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul gave the annual United Nations Day address at 07:30 on October 24, 2026, broadcast nationwide on Radio Thailand. He underscored the significance of UN Day, marked each year on October 24 to commemorate the organization's establishment in 1945 after World War II with the aim of maintaining peace, preventing another global war, and promoting the peaceful resolution of disputes — principles enshrined in the UN Charter.
Since then, international cooperation has produced norms across many fields: human rights, children's and women's rights, labor standards, law of the sea, environmental protection, education, culture, and sustainable development. While these rules do not guarantee unanimous agreement among nations, they provide an essential foundation for coexistence, offering forums for dialogue and joint problem-solving — especially critical today as the world faces geopolitical tensions, climate change, and rapid advances in technology and artificial intelligence that test the resilience of the global order.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Thailand's steadfast adherence to the sovereign equality of states, peaceful dispute settlement, and respect for international law, convinced that cooperation and mutually accepted rules are the bedrock of peace and sustainable development. Thailand reinforced these principles at the recent 81st UN General Assembly and has moved to elevate its global and regional role, notably by hosting the IMF–World Bank Group Annual Meetings 2026 in Bangkok last month — a concrete example of fostering international cooperation on the future of the world economy and underscoring Thailand's readiness to serve as a bridge for understanding and collaboration across UN, bilateral, and multilateral platforms.
In closing, the Prime Minister pledged Thailand's determined and creative partnership with the international community to uphold the UN's founding spirit of preserving peace, promoting cooperation, and advancing sustainable development for a better quality of life for all people.
