Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen is preparing to return to professional football despite medical warnings of the risk of cardiac arrest recurring. Eriksen collapsed and lost consciousness in the 65th minute of a warm-up match between Denmark and Ukraine on June 7, after which the match was stopped and canceled. The 34-year-old player received a pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator to ensure he could play again after his heart stopped during Euro 2020. He regained consciousness and walked off the pitch, later being confirmed as stable. According to the Daily Mail, Eriksen is now preparing to resume his professional football career after beginning a personalized rehabilitation program in Denmark, though doctors have warned that another serious cardiac event is "only a matter of time." His club Wolfsburg stated: "We wish Christian a speedy recovery."
