Police Bust Fake BTS Concert Ticket Scam Ring
Police arrested five suspects running a fake BTS concert ticket scam that defrauded 105 victims of nearly 1.9 million baht through counterfeit social media pages offering discounted tickets.
On July 11, 2025, police launched Operation "Bust the BTS Concert Ticket Scam Gang" following complaints from fans who fell victim to fraudsters selling counterfeit tickets for a popular Korean idol group's Thai concert. Five suspects were arrested: Temjai (name withheld), 21; Phimchanok (name withheld), 19; A (alias), 18; Padhanin (name withheld), 20; and Cherulilin (name withheld), 27. They face charges including fraud, computer data falsification, and unauthorized use of bank accounts.
The scam exploited high demand for concert tickets by creating fake social media pages and accounts offering discounted tickets. A total of 105 victims reported losses averaging 17,700 baht each. Police investigation revealed that some suspects were recruited through online job groups to transfer fraudulent payments via TrueMoney gift transfers, earning 200-2,000 baht per transaction. They believed they were processing pre-orders.
One mastermind confessed to creating fake pages on platform X and personally scamming victims out of approximately 800,000 baht. The suspect admitted to spending all the stolen money on personal expenses, including international travel and luxury brand purchases like handbags.
Police commander Nathsakdi Chaowanosai advised the public to purchase tickets only through authorized channels and to verify seller identity carefully before buying resold tickets. He warned that criminals typically exploit popular events by creating fake accounts, forged chat screenshots, and fabricated payment receipts to trick victims into sending money upfront. Citizens who fall victim are urged to report immediately to help police apprehend all gang members and prevent additional victims.
