Authorities Warn of Rising Water Below Phra Ram 6 Dam

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warns that the Phra Ram 6 Dam will increase its discharge from October 1 to 3, possibly raising downstream Pa Sak River levels by 1 to 1.5 meters. Authorities urge residents in Tha Ruea, Nakhon Luang, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Bang Pahan districts to move belongings to higher ground, relocate vehicles, and look after vulnerable groups. All six spillway gates are open as officials monitor water levels and prepare for additional inflow from upstream dams.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warned that the Phra Ram 6 Dam will increase its outflow to about 700–800 cubic meters per second from October 1 to 3, which may raise the Pa Sak River level downstream by approximately 1 to 1.5 meters. On October 1, reporters said the water situation in Ayutthaya Province still needs close monitoring, especially along the Pa Sak River and low‑lying areas outside the embankments. The districts most at risk are Tha Ruea, Nakhon Luang, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and Bang Pahan. Residents are urged to move possessions to higher ground, shift vehicles to safe locations, and look after vulnerable people such as the elderly, bedridden patients, and young children.

Currently all six spillway gates of the Phra Ram 6 Dam are open to discharge water and make room for inflow from upstream basins. The water level just upstream of the dam has fallen slightly, and the outflow rate is 531.45 cubic meters per second. Conditions downstream remain under close watch because the Raphi Phatthana and Nakhon Luang canals are already at about 100 % capacity, limiting their ability to take on more water.

Methus Piriyasathit, deputy mayor of Tha Ruea subdistrict municipality, said that water levels have dropped about one meter today after efforts to drain excess water, but the situation remains worrying as the dam must also handle runoff from the Pa Sak Chonsit Dam and the Chao Nat‑Pa Sak canal. He noted that on October 3 the Pa Sak Dam is expected to release about 800 cubic meters per second, sending additional water toward the area below Phra Ram 6 Dam and possibly affecting riverside homes. He urged the public not to be complacent, to prepare to move belongings to higher ground, and to follow official announcements.

In Tha Ruea municipality, around 2,234 riverside households have already been impacted by flooding. Residents of riverside communities, especially those near Wat Sato temple, said they have repeatedly faced flood seasons and often have to stay with relatives when water rises. They expressed stress and concern that higher water could affect the places where they have taken shelter, and called on agencies to continue monitoring and issuing timely warnings so people can prepare and evacuate their belongings.

Local residents along the Pa Sak River continue to watch water levels closely, readying themselves especially for older adults, bedridden patients, and young children who need early preparation of safe spaces.
